The death toll from ongoing floods and intensive rainfall in Assam rose to 101, according to a bulletin issued by the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) Assam on Monday, as several districts continued to grapple with rising water levels and displacement.
According to the bulletin, around 14,000 families and 52,000 people were affected in the Khumtai Assembly constituency, where about 1,300 people have taken shelter in 32 relief camps.
In Golaghat district, the Dhansiri River overflowed its banks, with floodwater entering homes in parts of Marangi Mouza, the bulletin said.
In affected areas, some residents have stayed in the upper portions of their houses to protect their belongings and livestock, while others have moved to relief camps, the bulletin said. Relief and rescue operations are continuing in the affected districts.
