In a tragic incident, a police constable identified as Manik Das died by suicide at the 10th Assam Police Battalion (APBn) headquarters in Guwahati’s Kahilipara area on Thursday evening.
According to initial reports, Das, a resident of Kochpara in Bijni, Chirang district, shot himself in the head with his service revolver at approximately 6:30 PM. Fellow personnel at the battalion heard the gunshot and alerted authorities.
Police officers arrived promptly at the scene and have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident. Senior officials are yet to issue a formal statement.
Das’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and authorities are also expected to reach out to the family for further details. The motive behind the extreme step remains unclear.
