Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh is set to join the Delhi Capitals support staff from the 2027 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), marking what would be his first official coaching assignment in the tournament.
According to reports, the development comes as JSW Group is expected to resume operational control of the franchise for the next two years. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is likely to play a leading role in the franchise’s support structure, with Yuvraj Singh expected to join his former teammate in the dugout.
A senior Delhi Capitals official has reportedly confirmed the development, although official comments from Yuvraj Singh and JSW Sports founder and director Parth Jindal are still awaited.
If confirmed, the appointment would mark a significant transition for Yuvraj, who has spent recent years mentoring several young and established cricketers without being part of a formal coaching setup. The 44-year-old has worked closely with players such as Abhishek Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, Abdul Samad, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant and Priyansh Arya, earning recognition for his role in nurturing emerging talent.
His work with young cricketers has attracted attention across IPL franchises, particularly due to the impact he is believed to have had on the development of players like Abhishek Sharma. Yuvraj’s practical approach and extensive playing experience have made him a respected figure among aspiring cricketers.
Sources familiar with his mentoring style describe him as a hands-on guide who spends considerable time with players on the training ground. Rather than limiting interactions to occasional conversations, he is known to actively participate in practice sessions, observe players closely and provide technical as well as mental support.
“Who wouldn't want a Yuvraj Singh in the dugout? Many of his former teammates, including Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag, have had coaching stints in the IPL. Yuvraj may be a little late to the party, but he has spent considerable time working with youngsters and understanding the demands of the role,” a source familiar with the development said.
The source added that Yuvraj’s role extends beyond training, with his mentorship helping numerous players navigate challenges both on and off the field.
