Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted India’s 39 Commonwealth Games 2026 medallists at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg on Monday and interacted with the athletes. India’s tally comprises 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals across weightlifting, boxing, athletics, judo and other events.
Modi heard the athletes speak about their experiences at the Games and said their performances were a source of pride for the country. He also said their success would inspire more youngsters to take up sports.
In a post on X, Modi said, “Delighted to host our outstanding medal winners from the Commonwealth Games 2026 at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Heard about their experiences from the Games.”
“Each one of them has made our nation proud through their exceptional performances. Their success will motivate many youngsters,” he said.
India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 Medal Tally
India’s 39-medal haul includes 13 gold medals, 17 silver medals and nine bronze medals. Weightlifting produced several podium finishes, including gold for Mirabai Chanu in the women’s 48kg category and silver medals for Rishikanta Singh in the men’s 60kg and Raja Muthupandi in the men’s 65kg events.
Boxing accounted for a significant share of India’s gold medals. Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal won gold medals, while Jadumani Singh and Lovlina Borgohain secured silver medals.
Athletics also contributed gold, silver and bronze medals. Sharmila Dhankar and Dilip Gavit won gold, while Sarvesh Kushare, Valluri Ajaya Babu, Gyaneshwari Yadav, Gulveer Singh, Harjinder Kaur, Murali Sreeshankar, Lovepreet Singh and Praveen Chithravel were among those who won silver.
Judo added gold medals through Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh, while Yamini Mourya and other Indian judokas also reached the podium. Para-athletes contributed medals across shot put and sprint events, including gold medals for Sharmila Dhankar, Dilip Gavit and Soman Rana.
Northeast Athletes Among India’s Medallists
Athletes from the Northeast also featured prominently in India’s medal tally. Manipur’s Mirabai Chanu won gold in women’s 48kg weightlifting, while Rishikanta Singh won silver in the men’s 60kg category. Bindyarani Devi added a bronze in women’s 58kg weightlifting, and boxer Jadumani Singh won silver in the men’s 55kg category. Rishikanta Singh is from Imphal West, while Jadumani Singh is from Manipur.
Tripura’s Asmita Dey won gold in women’s 48kg judo, while Assam’s Lovlina Borgohain secured silver in women’s 75kg boxing. Dey is from Belonia in South Tripura, while Borgohain is from Assam.
