On Monday, 25th Olympic Medal Winner Lovlina Borgohain tweeted that she has been suffering from mental harassment ahead of Commonwealth Games as her coaches cannot get into Commonwealth Village.
Talking to Twitter, She wrote – “Today I say with great sadness that I am being harassed a lot. Every once in a while, my coach, who helped me go down the medal lane at the Olympics, troubles us in my training process and competition by repeatedly removing them. One of them coach Sandhya Gurungji is also a Dronacharya Awardee. My both coach is too late to join the camp even after joining hands for training a thousand times. I have had to face many difficulties in this training, and mental harassment happens. Right now, my coach Sandhya Gurungji is outside Commonwealth Village, she is not getting entry, or my training process has stopped just 8 days before the games. My second coach has also been sent back to India. This happened even after I made so many requests; it caused me a lot of mental harassment. I don’t understand how to focus my game. I don’t want to spoil my Commonwealth Games either because of this or politics. I am hopeful that I can bring a medal by breaking politics for my country. Jai Hind”

Lovlina shared that she had faced many difficulties training for the last 8 days. As per her tweet, the trouble occurred when her coaches were repetedly removed from her training and even from Commonwealth Village. And due to this, Lovlina is going through a very tough phase.
It is worth mentioning that one of Lovlina’s Coaches is Dronacharya Awardee Sandhya Gurung. Sandhya Gurung is one of the key people for Lovlina’s sports career. Lovlina even mentioned that her Olympic success could not have been possible without their coach’s effort.
In this context, Indian Olympic Association released a press statement. It said that the matter of Ms Gurung’s accreditation was a late request received following the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee’s Delegation Registration Meeting with the national delegations. However, given the IOA places the convenience of the Indian athletes at the highest level, a special request has been made to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee on a priority basis to provide Ms Gurung with the requisite accreditation.

It is worth mentioning that Assam Olympic Association has highlighted that the state’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is looking into the matter seriously. Assam Olympic Association concluded by stating that they hope a solution can be reached soon, as the matter is being taken seriously. “I have learned from the Boxing Federation of India that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is taking up the issue and Commonwealth Federation too. So I hope there will be a solution because, at this time, Lovlina’s bout is very near in CWG. So this matter should be sorted out soon so she can win a medal,” General Secretary of Assam Olympic Association, Lakhya Konwar, concluded.
