Commonwealth Games 2022: Indian Mixed Badminton Team settles with a silver medal; India’s tally rises to 13

On Tuesday (August 2), in the mixed doubles team badminton finals, India lost to Malaysia with a score of 1-3 in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. As a result, India reached number 13 in the overall ranking of medals tally.

The Mixed Team Final event started with the Men’s Double. The match between India’s Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty versus Malaysia’s Teng Fong Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh.

In the first set of men’s doubles, the pair Malaysia defeated India by 21-18. The second set also won the Malaysian pair by 21-15. It leads to an overall win of 1-0 in the main event.

In the women’s singles match of the Mixed Team event, Malaysian Jin Wei Goh was dominated by India’s PV Sindhu. Sindhu won the first set at 22-20 and the second by 21-17. Sindhu’s performance helped India level the overall score to 1-1.

In the men’s singles, an intense battle was seen between Kidambi Srikanth and Tze Yong Ng, securing the winning points. Tze Yong Ng won the first set 21-19. However, with a comeback, in the second set, Srikanth won by 21-6, leveling the match 1-1. Tze Yong Ng regained his dominance in the third set to win by 21-16.

Gayatri Pullela and Treesa Jolly square off against Muralitharan Thinaah and Koong Le Pearly Tan, were in the fourth match. Pullela and Jolly lost the first set 21-18 and went down to 21-14 in the second set.
