In a tragic incident, a mother and daughter lost their lives due to a suspected mobile phone short circuit at Kamakhya Nagar in Maligaon late Tuesday night.
The victims have been identified as Sharmistha Chakraborty and her daughter Dipshikha Chakraborty. According to police sources, both were asleep with their mobile phones and tablets charging beside them on the bed, when a short circuit triggered an explosion and subsequent fire.
The charged electronic devices reportedly exploded, leading to severe burns and instant fatal injuries. Police recovered the charred bodies, which were described as frozen and unresponsive upon discovery.
The father, Subrat Chakraborty, who was also present in the house at the time of the incident, sustained minor injuries while trying to respond to the fire. He has been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and is reportedly stable.
