In a major boost for the struggling Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been declared fit to play and is set to feature in their upcoming clash against Delhi Capitals on April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Suryakumar, 33, has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury during India’s tour of South Africa in December 2023. The swashbuckling batter underwent surgery in Munich, Germany, in January and has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
According to sources, Suryakumar has successfully recovered from his injury and has proven his fitness in practice games at the NCA. “He is fit now. The NCA made him play a few practice games, and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians team,” the source revealed.
The source further added, “We wanted to be sure that when Surya goes back to MI, he is 100 percent fit and ready to play games. He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness test before the IPL, so we waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting.”
Suryakumar’s return to the MI squad will be a much-needed boost for the five-time IPL champions, who are still searching for their maiden victory in the ongoing season. The franchise is facing criticism from fans after appointing Hardik Pandya as their new captain for the IPL.
The inclusion of Suryakumar, known for his explosive batting and impeccable timing, is expected to bolster MI’s batting lineup and provide them with the firepower needed to turn their fortunes around in the tournament.
As the Mumbai Indians prepare to take on the Delhi Capitals in their home ground, all eyes will be on Suryakumar’s comeback and his potential to spark a resurgence for the struggling franchise.
