Mirabai Chanu clinched the first gold medal for India at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games

Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games by lifting weights in the 49 kg category. Chanu had made a massive lead of 12 kg after the snatch round.

This time Chanu was seen as full of confidence from the beginning. She lifted a total of 201 kg. In addition, she lifted 88 kg in snatch. At the same time, she was lifting 113 kg in clean and jerk. She has made a record in this category.

She lifted 84 kg in her first attempt. She equaled her best in the second attempt by lifting 88 kg.

She remained in the gold medal position from the very beginning. This is also the Snatch Games record in this category. She tried to lift 90 kg in the third attempt but could not succeed.

Taking to Twitter, Mirabai wrote – Lifting 201kg never felt easy but thanks to the love and wishes of billions back home, every challenge is just an attempt away.

Mirabai is a silver medalist in Tokyo Olympics. However, in the 49 kg weight category, gold was expected from her here.
