CWG 2022: Breaking all Stereotypes 4 Indian women brings gold in Lawn Bowl Event

India’s lawn bowl teams create history at Commonwealth Games 2022, bringing home the first-ever gold medal at Lawn Bowl Event, defeating South Africa. On Tuesday, defeating the South African Indian team created history at CWG.

Indian Lawn Bowl team includes four players: Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Rupa Rani Tirkey, and Nayanmoni Saikia.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Said – Historic win in Birmingham! India is proud of Lovely Choubey, Pinki Singh, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani Tirkey for bringing home the prestigious Gold in Lawn Bowls. The team has demonstrated great dexterity and their success will motivate many Indians towards Lawn Bowls.

Hailing from Jharkhand, Lovely is a constable at Jharkhand Police. Rupa is a District Sports Officer at Jharkhand. Nayanmani Saikia, who hails from Assam, is Forest Officer.

Nayanmoni Saikia is from Golaghat, Assam. She is 14th in women’s triplets and fourth in women’s fours.

Saikia studied at the Golaghat Commerce College. Madhukant Pathak has coached her. Saikia has been married since 2013.

As per the reports, Nayanmoni Saikia ‘was a very dedicated weightlifter earlier until a leg injury ended her career.

She switched to Lawn Bowls later.
