Commonwealth Games 2022: These 7 players from Assam all set to compete in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham

2022, Birmingham Commonwealth Games will start on 28th July. A total of 7 players from Assam will participate in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Starting from Olympic medal winner Lovlina to weightier Popi Hazarika, netizens will be excited for their games at Birmingham.

Here are the details of all the participants from Assam at the Commonwealth Games 2022 –

Lovlina Borgohain

Lovlina Borgohain is an Indian boxer. She won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 women’s welterweight event, becoming only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics. She won a bronze medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Meanwhile, the problem has been solved with Lavlina’s coach. Coach Sandhya Gurung has received the accreditation card for the Games.

All eyes would be now on Olympic medal winner Lovlina Borghoain.

Hima Das

Hima Das, nicknamed Dhing Express, is an Indian sprinter from Assam. She holds the current Indian national record in 400 meters with a timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Shiv Thapa

Shiva Thapa is an Indian boxer. He is supported by Olympic Gold Quest and Anglian Medal Hunt Company. Shiva Thapa participated in the 2012 London Olympics and was the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics. He is employed with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.

Popi Hazarika

Popi Hazarika is an aspiring weightlifter from Assam. Twenty-three years old Popi aims to win a medal in the Women’s 59Kg category at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Popi hails from the Sivsagar district of Assam. She is the younger of four siblings. She lost her father at age 10 in an electricity mishap at their home.

In the 2021 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships being held in Tashkent, weightlifter Popy Hazarika has clinched a silver medal in the women’s 59-kilogram category. Hazarika lifted 84 kilograms in snatch and 105 kilograms in clean and jerk for a total of 189 kilograms to take the second spot on the podium.

Tania Chowdhury, Nayanmani Shaikia, and Mridul Bargohain have qualified for the prestigious Commonwealth Games in the lawn Bowl event. The Assam Olympic Association is optimistic about these athletes.
