In a significant development within the Indian National Congress, senior party leader and spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh has tendered his resignation from all posts, citing ideological differences. Vallabh took to social media to announce his departure from the party, along with his primary membership.
In his resignation letter addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Vallabh expressed his discomfort with the party’s stance on certain issues. “I am emotional. The mind is distressed. I want to say, write, tell a lot. But, my values forbid me from saying anything that might hurt others. Still, I am putting my views before you today because I feel that hiding the truth is also a crime, and I do not want to be a part of the crime,” he wrote.
Vallabh, a chartered accountant and professor of economics, cited his inability to align with the party’s positions, particularly when it comes to criticizing the country’s wealth creators. “I cannot raise anti-Sanatan slogans nor abuse the wealth creators of the country in the morning and evening. Therefore, I am resigning from all posts along with the primary membership of the Congress Party,” he stated.
The outgoing Congress spokesperson contested assembly elections from Udaipur in Rajasthan and Jamshedpur in Jharkhand but faced defeat in both constituencies.
In his letter, Vallabh expressed his initial belief that the Congress Party valued young, intellectual people and their ideas. However, he acknowledged a growing disconnect between the party’s current form and its ability to accommodate youth with new ideas.
“When I joined the Congress Party, I believed that Congress was the oldest party in the country. Where young, intellectual people and their ideas are valued. But in the last few years, I realized that the current form of the party is not able to adjust itself with the youth with new ideas,” Vallabh wrote.
Vallabh’s resignation has sparked discussions within political circles, with some perceiving it as a setback for the Congress Party’s efforts to attract and retain young, progressive voices.
The Congress leadership is yet to officially respond to Vallabh’s resignation, but the development is likely to prompt introspection within the party ranks regarding its ideological positions and its ability to resonate with a diverse spectrum of perspectives.
