The campaign trail in Assam has heated up as political parties and prominent leaders leave no stone unturned to woo voters ahead of the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 7. The constituencies of Guwahati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Dhubri, with a total of 47 candidates in the fray, will go to polls in this phase.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been actively campaigning, addressing rallies and public meetings across the four constituencies. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal, state Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah, Asom Gana Parishad president Atul Bora, and Bodoland People’s Front chief Hagrama Mahilary are also leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to garner support.

Adding firepower to the BJP’s campaign, Union Home Minister and senior party leader Amit Shah is scheduled to hold a high-profile road show in Guwahati on Monday.

The prestigious Guwahati Lok Sabha seat has become a battleground, with both the BJP and the Congress fielding women candidates. The BJP has given the ticket to party leader Bijuli Kalita Medhi, replacing the sitting MP Queen Oja, while the Congress has fielded former BJP leader Mira Borthakur Goswami.

As the campaign enters its final stretch, political parties are pulling out all the stops, organizing rallies, roadshows, and door-to-door campaigning to reach out to the electorate. Key issues such as development, employment, and regional concerns are expected to dominate the discourse.

The fate of the candidates in the third phase will be decided by an electorate of over 81,77,207 eligible voters, who will exercise their franchise across 9516 polling stations in the four constituencies.

With high stakes and intense competition, the campaigning has entered a crucial phase, as parties and leaders make their final pitch to the voters before the state goes to polls on May 7.
