Thadoi Yumnam was crowned Miss Universe Manipur 2026 at the grand finale of the state pageant held at Chandrakriti Auditorium in Imphal on Sunday, securing the opportunity to represent Manipur at the Miss Universe India 2026 competition scheduled to take place in July.

The prestigious event brought together 20 finalists from different parts of the state, who competed across multiple rounds designed to evaluate confidence, leadership qualities, social awareness and personal advocacy. At the conclusion of the competition, Zeneva Laikhuram was declared the first runner-up, while Alish Maibam secured the second runner-up position.

The pageant was organised under the leadership of noted fashion designer and State Director Robert Naorem in collaboration with the Manipur AIDS Control Society and For Better Kangleipak. The event focused on promoting women’s empowerment, social responsibility and community engagement while providing a platform for young women to showcase their talent and perspectives.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and the First Lady attended the programme in a private capacity. Reigning Miss Universe India 2025, Manika Vishwakarma, was among the distinguished guests and also served as a member of the judging panel.

Speaking after being crowned, an emotional Thadoi Yumnam described the achievement as the fulfilment of a long-held dream. She recalled her previous attempt at the competition and said that despite not succeeding last year, she remained determined and continued working towards her goal. She credited her success to the constant support of her family, teachers and friends, describing the title as the result of a collective effort.

Throughout the competition, contestants highlighted themes such as self-confidence, self-acceptance and overcoming societal pressures. Participants shared personal experiences and messages aimed at encouraging young people to believe in themselves and pursue their aspirations.

Praising the contestants, Manika Vishwakarma said she was impressed by their confidence and ability to express their thoughts. She noted that the participants had effectively showcased the values and aspirations of Manipur on stage and demonstrated the resilience of the state’s youth.

With the state crown now secured, Thadoi Yumnam will represent Manipur at Miss Universe India 2026, carrying the hopes of the state onto the national platform as she competes for the coveted national title.
