Sikkim to connect with rest of India via Railways – Expected connectivity by 2023

Sikkim can be reached by train from Bengal. According to Indian railway sources, emphasis has been laid on the initiative to build a railway line from Sivok to Rangpo. The railways claim that the north-eastern state will benefit if trains start playing on this route.

Until now, the only way to reach Sikkim is by road. With the launch of the route, tourists from all over the country can go to Sikkim easily.

The length of the Rangpo railway from Sivok will be 44.96 km. Of this, 41.55 km will be in West Bengal. The remaining 3.41 km is in Sikkim.

There will be a total of 14 tunnels on this route. The longest tunnels will be 5.27 km long, the smallest 538 m. There will be five stations on the way. Sivok, Riyang, Melli, Rangpo and Teesta Bazaar.

Railways claim that 45 per cent of the construction work has already been completed. The total cost of constructing this line has been estimated at 4,065 crore.
