A joint team of security forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during an extensive intelligence-based combing and search operation conducted in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. The operation was carried out at Leilon Vaiphei village and several surrounding areas and involved personnel from the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), COBRA units and the Indian Army.
According to police sources, the coordinated operation continued for three days and was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of armed militants in the region. During the course of the search mission, security personnel reportedly engaged in an encounter with armed militants. However, no casualties were reported on either side.
The operation resulted in the recovery of approximately 40 weapons along with ammunition and other related materials. Among the seized arms were 17 single-barrel and double-barrel guns, AK-47 rifles, Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), SKS rifles and 11 Single Barrel Loading (SBL) rifles.
Officials described the recovery as a significant achievement in ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illegal weapons and strengthen security in the district. The operation forms part of a broader strategy by security agencies to identify and dismantle armed networks operating in sensitive areas of the state.
The recovered weapons have been taken into custody for further examination and investigation. Authorities are expected to analyse the seized arms to determine their origin and possible links to militant activities in the region.
Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations across several districts of Manipur in recent months as part of efforts to maintain law and order and prevent the misuse of illegal firearms. Officials indicated that similar search and combing operations will continue in vulnerable areas to ensure public safety and security.
The successful recovery of the weapons cache highlights the continued coordination among various security agencies operating in the state and their efforts to address security challenges through targeted intelligence-led operations.
