Manipur violence: Section 144 imposed, internet cut down in Churachandpur district

On Thursday, a crowd set PT Sports Complex’s open gym in New Lamka, Manipur’s Churachandpur district, on fire. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh was supposed to open this gym.

Additionally, the crowd destroyed Sadbhav Mandap, where the public gathering was held. Following this occurrence, section 144 was implemented and internet usage was briefly restricted in the state’s Churachandpur district.

The location of Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s event at New Lamka in the Churachandpur district was vandalised and set on fire by an irate mob. Police in the area swiftly dispersed the mob, but on Thursday night, hundreds of chairs were set ablaze. Bad damage was also done to the location.

According to Police, the newly built open gym at the PT Sports Complex in New Lamka, which to be officially opened by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday afternoon, was partially set on fire. The Chief Minister has another event at the Sadbhavna Mandap arranged in addition to the opening of the open gym.

Following a meeting of native tribal elders calling for a Churachandpur bandh from 8 am to 4 pm, a mob attack occurred. The Forum asserted that despite repeated complaints to the government against the current eviction campaign to remove farmers and other tribal members from reserved forest areas, the government displayed neither sincerity or willingness to improve the situation of the populace.
