The Government of Manipur has greenlit a significant proposal from the Manipur Police Department to establish a new Secretariat Police Station at Mantripukhri and create 12 Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) posts across various districts. This strategic move aims to enhance policing capabilities, improve supervision of investigations, and strengthen law and order management.
The new Secretariat Police Station will cater to the growing security needs of the State Civil Secretariat and Police Headquarters at Mantripukhri, while also serving critical institutions like the Manipur High Court, IIT, and the Forest Office Complex. Additionally, a dedicated SDPO for the New Capital Complex under Imphal East District will oversee the station and coordinate with the Heingang Police Station to ensure effective law and order management.

The 12 new SDPO posts, reallocated from existing DSP/AC posts within the Manipur Police, will be distributed across new and old districts to address longstanding shortages in supervisory roles. New districts such as Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Pherzawl, and Noney will benefit, alongside old districts like Churachandpur and Tamenglong. This reallocation avoids additional financial liabilities, optimizing the use of existing manpower.
The initiative is expected to transform policing efficiency by improving command and control in remote areas, strengthening investigative oversight, and enhancing border policing in districts like Tengnoupal and Kamjong. The Manipur Government and State Police Department remain committed to modernizing policing infrastructure in a sustainable, citizen-centric manner.
