Salseng C. Marak, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and congress leader, passed away on Friday at Tura Civil Hospital. Marak, an 82-year-old veteran politician, was admitted to Tura Civil Hospital due to poor health issues on August 12.
The Congress Party elected Salseng C. Marak as chief minister of Meghalaya from 1993 to 1998, a time when the state was experiencing political instability.
He was the 6th chief minister of Meghalaya.
Marak was popularly known as a clean politician because of his corruption-free and progressive image. He was also the president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) in 2003.
He represented Resubelpara constituency in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly consecutively from the 1970s till 2008.
On social media platform ‘X’, chief minister Conrad K. Sangma condoles Marak’s demise. He expressed his deep sadness upon learning of the demise of former Chief Minister Salseng C. Marak.
On Saturday, Marak’s mortal remains to be laid rest in his home constituency of Resubelpara in North Garo Hills.
