Captain Vikram Batra: Artists made the world’s largest underwater portrait of Kargil war hero in Thiruvananthapuram

On the eve of Kargil Vijay Divas, the Pangode Military Station here on Tuesday organized a unique tribute to the Late Captain Vikram Batra.

A 1500 sq ft underwater portrait of the war hero was made by artist Davinchi Suresh.

The Indian Army organized the event with the help of the Scuba Diving team of Bond Water Sports Pvt Ltd to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Kargil Vijay Divas is the day when India has proved that it is committed to friendship and ready for war at the global level. It was the day when Indian soldiers hoisted the victory flag against Pakistani infiltrators.
‘Kargil Vijaya Divas’ commemorates the sacrifice, patriotism, adventure, prowess, and dedication of Indian soldiers. Even though it has been 23 years since the end of the Kargil war, this is an unforgettable day that every citizen of the country can be proud of.

Captain Vikram Batra PVC was an officer of the Indian Army. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest military decoration of the Republic of India, for his actions during the 1999 Kargil War. Batra was killed in action by Pakistani troops around Area Ledge, Point 4875 in Kargil, erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir, on 7 July, during the three-month-long conflict.
