Under Construction Bridge Worth Rs 1,717 Cr Collapses in Bihar, No Casualties Reported

An under-construction bridge in Bhagalpur, Bihar, unexpectedly collapsed on Sunday, June 4, as shown by captured video footage. The Aguwani Sultanganj Ganga bridge, which had a projected budget of Rs 1,717 crore, crumbled in two successive sections. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported so far.

The bridge, being constructed in Khagaria, Bihar, collapsed around 6 pm on Sunday, triggering an immediate response from Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar. The Chief Minister has called for an investigation into the incident, demanding that those responsible for the bridge’s collapse be identified. The ‘Pul Nirman Nigam’ has been assigned to compile a report on the incident.

According to incoming reports, approximately three feet of the bridge crumbled into the Ganges River below. This incident is not the first of its kind for the Aguwani Sultanganj Ganga bridge, which had already suffered damage from a storm in April of this year.

The collapsed portion of the bridge was part of the central section being built over the river Ganges. It was intended to provide a connection between Khagaria, Aguwani, and Sultanganj. It is also noteworthy that a segment of the same bridge had also fallen apart two years prior to this incident.
