Tapan Deka, the first Assamese to head the important post of the country, the Chief of IB. Tapan Kumar Deka joined the Indian Police Service in 1988.
Tapan Kumar Deka, an IPS cadre from Himachal Pradesh, served in the intelligence department for a long time. He has earned a reputation at home and abroad with his skills and talents.
In 2013, he was awarded the Presidential Police Medal. Tapan Kumar Deka was one of the best IPS officers in the country. He was serving in the Indian Embassy in the United States during the Twin Towers attacks.
He was a very gifted student. He was active as a student leader of the AASU during the Assam movement. Tapan Deka, who has a reputation for counter-terrorism operations, oversaw the counter-terrorism operations in Assam from 1993 to 2001.
In 2006, he served as the head of the Anti-Terror Wing of the IB (Intelligence Bureau) Department until 2012. The IPS officer is currently a close confidant and associate of Prime Minister’s Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
He has been in the United States since 2012. He came to Assam in 2016 and joined the IB as Joint Director for the North East. In 2019, he was transferred to Delhi as an Additional Director of IB.
The IPS officer, who has served in the intelligence department for a long time, was approved by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet on June 13, 2018, for the post of Additional Director General along with 30 other officers.
He attended Cotton College and later studied at the University of Delhi. He was also the Secretary of the Debate Department of the Cotton Students’ Union while studying at Cotton College.
The IPS officer was entrusted with the security of the Indian cricket team that went to Dhaka when Sourav Ganguly led the Indian team. He was in Bangladesh until December 28, 2014, with Indian Cricket Team.
