Indian Space Research Organisation chairman Dr. V. Narayanan today said that the NASA-ISRO synthetic approach radar satellite is likely to be launched next month. Talking to Akashvani Agartala on the sidelines of the 5th Convocation ceremony of the Central Agriculture University, Imphal, held at the College of Fisheries at Agartala, he said the radar satellite has two major payloads and has a microwave remote sensing satellite. He said, one payload has been made by the US and another by India.

Further, he said, during India’s G20 presidency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that India would build a G20 satellite. The satellite’s function will be to study climate-related activities. The ISRO chief said, 50 percent payload of the G20 satellite will be from India, and the remaining payload will come from other countries. The satellite will be launched using India’s very own launch vehicle. After the launch, the data gathered by the satellite will be shared with the G20 countries.

Talking about India’s upcoming missions and launches, he said on May 18, the RA-SAT, a C-band synthetic radar satellite, will be launched by PSLV, and next month, Gaganyatri will be sent to the International Space Station to gain some experience.

In the convocation ceremony, degrees were conferred to over 1,500 students from 28 states, graduating across 13 constituent colleges located throughout the Northeast region.

The ceremony marked the awarding of doctoral, postgraduate, and graduate degrees in agriculture and allied sciences. A total of 33 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate students were honoured with Gold Medals, while the prestigious Akoijam Udhab Singh Memorial Award was presented to nine outstanding doctoral scholars.
