Jammu & Kashmir: Indian Army Soldier Martyred in Poonch as Operation Sindoor Sparks Cross-Border Fire

Indian Army Soldier Martyred: Tensions flared along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector as heavy cross-border firing erupted between Indian and Pakistani forces. The exchange of fire has been ongoing since the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor against terror hideouts on May 7. Tragically, during Wednesday’s intense shelling, Indian Army soldier Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar was martyred after being hit by enemy fire.

Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, who was deployed with the 5 Field Regiment, laid down his life in the line of duty. The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps paid tribute to his supreme sacrifice, with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and fellow soldiers honoring his bravery and devotion to the nation.

The Army also expressed solidarity with the innocent civilians affected by unprovoked Pakistani shelling, which has created an atmosphere of fear and tension in the border villages of Poonch.

The recent escalation is believed to be a direct fallout of India’s strong offensive against terrorist infrastructure. In a bold move, Indian forces reportedly targeted nine major terror bases across the Line of Control and inside Pakistan late Wednesday night. The strikes, which lasted 25 minutes—from 1:05 am to 1:30 am—destroyed camps associated with terror masterminds Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar. These camps have allegedly been training terrorists for decades to launch attacks in India.

Reacting strongly to India’s action, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation on Wednesday night and issued a sharp warning to India, stating, “India will have to pay a heavy price for its mistake.” He claimed that the Pakistani military had retaliated within hours, forcing Indian forces to retreat. According to Sharif, the Indian action resulted in the death of 26 Pakistani nationals, including women and children, and injured more than 40 others.

As tensions continue to simmer, the situation remains volatile in the Poonch sector, with fears of further escalation looming large.
