HCLTech has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati to provide advanced education in artificial intelligence technologies to employees enrolled in its TechBee early-career development program.
Under the agreement, eligible HCLTech employees will have the opportunity to pursue a four-year online Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Data Science and AI while continuing their professional work. This initiative aims to equip participants with cutting-edge skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving technology landscape and prepare them for future leadership roles within the company.

“The programme has been designed to offer accessible, high-quality education that empowers students to thrive in the ever-evolving technology landscape,” said Devendra Jalihal, director of IIT Guwahati, highlighting the value of the collaboration between the academic institution and the technology company.
Subbaraman B, Senior Vice President at HCLTech, emphasized the significance of this partnership for the company’s talent development strategy: “Our TechBee program provides high school graduates with a unique opportunity to kick-start their careers, and this collaboration with IIT Guwahati adds another valuable pathway for them to pursue their academic ambitions while gaining real-world industry experience.”
This partnership builds on HCLTech’s ongoing efforts to enhance AI capabilities across its workforce. In October last year, the company launched an advanced AI transformation academy with tech company Multiverse to upskill employees in AI and generative AI. That initiative supports HCLTech’s ambitious goal of upskilling 50,000 employees in generative AI technologies by 2025.
The TechBee program itself represents an innovative approach to talent development, designed for students who have completed Class 12. It enables participants to begin working with the company while simultaneously pursuing higher education, promoting skill development and career readiness in the technology sector.
The partnership with IIT Guwahati is particularly significant as Assam continues to make notable strides in introducing AI technologies throughout its education system. This week, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) announced three new elective subjects—AI, financial literacy, and sign language—for higher secondary students starting this academic year.
Supporting these curriculum changes, a three-day residential AI training program for school teachers was recently held at IIT Guwahati on May 14. According to The Assam Tribune, this initiative represents a significant step in preparing students for the changing demands of the digital economy, with state education minister Ranoj Pegu noting that the program aims to equip students with essential life skills while promoting inclusivity.
