A fatal car accident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, resulting in the death of Chitra Singh, daughter-in-law of former Indian federal minister Jaswant Singh.
Singh was traveling with her husband, former Member of Parliament Manavendra Singh, and the couple’s son when their vehicle suddenly veered out of control near the 82 km marker.
The car crashed into a bridge wall, killing Chitra instantly. Manavendra and his son suffered critical injuries and were transported to a hospital in Alwar by emergency services.
The family’s driver was also seriously hurt. All three survivors remain hospitalized as of Tuesday evening.
Local police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Senior government officials rushed to the hospital upon learning Manavendra Singh, a known public figure, was involved.
The expressway connecting India’s political and financial capitals opened only last month. Authorities are still examining safety issues along the stretch where the crash took place.
Manavendra Singh served as a Member of Parliament for Rajasthan state from 2014-2019 as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His father Jaswant Singh held federal ministerial portfolios over a decades-long political career.
