Draupadi Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of India. The oath-taking ceremony was held in the Central Hall of Parliament House. Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana administered the oath of office to Draupadi Murmu.

Outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Speaker M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Cabinet members, Governor, Chief Minister, Members of Parliament and Chief Government Officers, and Army officers attended the swearing-in ceremony. Draupadi Murmu is the first President of the country from the tribal community.

So far, no Aboriginal person has ever reached the seat of Prime Minister or President in the country. However, two Dalits became Presidents of the country in the form of KR Narayanan and Ram Nath Kovind.

Draupadi Murmu was born on June 20, 1958. She became the youngest President of the country. Neelam Sanjeev Reddy, who was elected President unopposed in 1977, held the record of being the country’s youngest President. It is also the first time a person who once entered politics as a councillor has become President of India. Draupadi Murmu started her political career in 1997 when she became a councillor of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. Three years later, in 2000, he became an MLA for the first time. He has also served twice in the BJD-BJP government in Orissa.
