A 39-year-old chief executive of a Bengaluru-based startup was arrested in Karnataka on Monday for allegedly murdering her 4-year-old son at a hotel in Goa before attempting to flee to Bengaluru by road.
Suchana Seth had checked into a hotel in North Goa’s Sinquerim area with her son on January 6. After the gruesome killing, she stuffed the boy’s body in a travel bag and left the premises alone, as revealed by CCTV footage.
A hotel staffer who found blood stains on the sheets alerted authorities. Police traced the Ola cab Seth had booked to Karnataka, leading to her capture in Chitradurga with cooperation from state police.
Initial statements given by the woman about leaving her son with a relative did not verify, police said. Her motives behind the horrific crime remain unclear as an investigative team brings her into custody.
The incident has left locals and hospitality staff in the popular tourist area shocked at the brutality of the crime committed by the seemingly ordinary corporate executive. An autopsy is being conducted on the deceased child even as further details are awaited from questioning of the accused.
Police officials praised the alertness and quick action taken by hotel staff, which helped crack the case and catch the absconding killer mother in a matter of days.
