2006 Varanasi Serial Blast: Verdict in Varanasi temple blast case after 16 years, death sentence to terrorist Waliullah

The Ghaziabad District and Sessions Court has sentenced terrorist Waliullah to death in the serial blasts case in Varanasi. This decision has come 16 years after the blasts. Serial bomb blasts took place in Varanasi’s Sankat Mochan Mandir and Cantt railway station in 2006. In these blasts, 18 people died, and more than 35 people were injured. Explosives were also found at Dashashwamedh Ghat on the same evening.

On April 5 2006, Varanasi police arrested Waliullah, a resident of Phulpur village in Allahabad, from the Gosainganj area of ​​Lucknow in this case. On June 4, the charge of plotting the blasts at Sankat Mochan Temple and Varanasi Cantt railway station on the convicted Waliullah, spreading terrorism by bringing them to their conclusion, was proved on June 4.

The lawyers of Varanasi had refused to fight the case of Waliullah. After this, the Allahabad High Court transferred the case to the Ghaziabad District Judge’s court. Since then, the hearing of the case has been going on in the district judge’s court in Ghaziabad.

Earlier on June 4, the court of Ghaziabad District and Sessions Judge Jitendra Kumar Sinha had convicted Waliullah. Earlier on May 23, the hearing in the Varanasi bomb case was held in the court of District and Sessions Judge Jitendra Kumar Sinha. Before the trial began, the accused Waliullah was produced in the court under tight security. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the date of June 4 was fixed for the decision.

In fact, on March 7 2006, there were bomb blasts on Sankatmochan Temple and Railway Cantt in Varanasi. There was chaos after the blasts. A cooker bomb was found at Dashashwamedh Ghat. 7 people died in the blasts at Sankat Mochan temple and 11 at Cantt station.
