Salman Rushdie attacked on stage in New York

On Friday, 12 Aug 2022, at Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York, author Salman Rushdie was attacked during a lecture.

The author, Salman Rushdie, got several death threats from Iran after his writting since 1980s, and on Friday as he was attacked, as he was getting ready for to deliver a lecture in western New York.

A press personal from the event, witnessed as the author was introduced, a man approaching towards the stage of the Chautauqua Institution and started punching or stabbing Rushdie. The man was restrained and the author was taken or fell to the floor.
“The Satanic Verses”, Rushdie’s book has been banned in Iran since 1980s as many amongst the Muslim community consider it to be blasphemous. Iran’s late leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa, or edict, calling for Rushdie’s death, a year later.
For anyone who kills Rushdie, a reward of over $3 million has also been offered.

Salman Rushdie, was flown to hospital after he was stabbed during the event. No word on his condition.
‘Quichotte’, ‘Midnight’s Children’, ‘Shame’, ‘The Satanic Verses’, were also written by Salman Rushdie.
