On 27 July, two women were caught by Guwahati Police over suspicion of baby lifting from Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). The two women named Pramila Deka and Bijita Das were seen roaming around the Gynecology ward of GMCH. According to the report, a security guard and other people heard their conversation about supplying babies to some unknown people. It is worth mentioning that these women were in touch with a mother of a newborn baby and negotiated a baby for Rs 5000. Following this, the GMCH administration immediately informed the police, and both the women were nabbed.
