Television and film actor Priya Marathe, best remembered for her role as Varsha in the hit show Pavitra Rishta, passed away in Mumbai on August 31, 2025, after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was 38.
According to reports, Marathe had been undergoing treatment for the past year, but her condition continued to deteriorate despite medical care. She ultimately breathed her last at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai, family sources confirmed.
Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Marathe was a familiar face in both Marathi entertainment and Hindi television. She gained nationwide popularity through Pavitra Rishta and went on to appear in Balaji Telefilms productions including Kasamh Se, where she played Vidya Bali, and Bade Acche Lagte Hain as Jyoti Malhotra.
Her career spanned diverse genres—from drama to comedy. She was a contestant in the first season of Comedy Circus and appeared in a range of Marathi serials and films such as Char Divas Sasuche, Tu Tithe Mi, Ya Sukhano Ya, Jayastute, and Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji. She was also seen in Hindi television series including Saath Nibhaana Saathiya and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap.
In 2023, Marathe stepped down from the Marathi show Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe, citing health concerns, after which she largely withdrew from public life. Her social media activity ceased around the same time, with her last Instagram post from 2024 showing her visit to Amer Fort in Jaipur with her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe.
