The much-awaited railway overbridge (ROB) at Barkura in Assam’s Nalbari district is nearing completion and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 14, announced Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah.
In a further boost to infrastructure development in the district, another ROB at Ghograpar is also in the pipeline. Minister Mallabaruah confirmed that the foundation stone for the Ghograpar ROB will be laid on the same day, as part of a broader push to enhance road and rail connectivity in the region.

“Carrying forward the progress of Nalbari, Hon’ble CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Dangoriya will soon inaugurate the nearly completed railway overbridge (ROB) at Barkura. Further strengthening the district’s infrastructure push, he will also lay the foundation stone for another ROB at Ghograpar on 14th August,” Mallabaruah wrote on X.
The minister visited both the Barkura and Ghograpar sites ahead of the planned events and said he has issued necessary instructions to officials to ensure seamless execution of the scheduled programmes.
The twin projects are part of the Assam government’s broader commitment to upgrade transportation infrastructure in key districts and reduce bottlenecks caused by level crossings. Once operational, these overbridges are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve safety for commuters in and around Nalbari.
