A newly constructed Model Anganwadi Centre was inaugurated at Achabam Tea Estate in Assam, built at a cost of ₹25 lakh under the Department of Social Welfare.
Taranga Gogoi announced the inauguration on social media platform X, expressing confidence that children in the Achabam area will benefit significantly from the new facility.
The centre will provide early education services alongside health and nutrition support for young children in the tea estate community. Anganwadi centres serve as the primary touchpoint for India’s Integrated Child Development Services programme, offering critical interventions during formative years.
“Through the establishment of Anganwadi Centres, the Department of Social Welfare has been nurturing children with early education while also ensuring their overall health and well-being,” Gogoi stated.
The Achabam facility represents continued efforts to extend child welfare infrastructure to Assam’s tea garden populations, who often face challenges accessing quality early childhood services. Model Anganwadi Centres are designed with improved amenities compared to standard facilities, offering better learning environments and enhanced service delivery.
The inauguration aligns with the state government’s broader push to strengthen grassroots welfare infrastructure across Assam. Anganwadi centres play a vital role in combating malnutrition, promoting immunization, and preparing children for formal schooling.
The new centre is expected to serve families across the Achabam Tea Estate and surrounding areas, providing a foundation for improved child development outcomes in the region.
