The city bus service, which has been playing an essential role in public transport services in Guwahati, has been revamped before the upcoming Independence Day.
The CM also directed the officers involved in Guwahati transport services to make the public transport services in Guwahati more friendly to passengers and the general public at a review meeting with district transport officers in Dispur on August 2.
Following the directive, an important meeting was held on August 3 at Sri Sri Madhavdev International Hall, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Panjabari, in the presence of four associations representing city bus services operating in Guwahati, city bus owners and partners.

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority of Kamrup Metropolitan District and Kamrup District Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner of Transport Susmita Kakati, Assistant Commissioner of Transport and Additional In-Charge District Transport Officer (Registration and Licensing) of Kamrup Metropolitan District, and District Transport Officer (Promoter) Himanshu Kumar Das, The city bus owners’ associations representing Pulak Goswami, Pradeep Das, Bipul Kalita and Rafiqul Islam were present at the meeting.
The meeting also took several decisions on improving service quality by making the city bus services in Guwahati more people-oriented and passenger friendly.
Accordingly, making it compulsory to issue tickets to passengers, stopping city buses from stopping everywhere except at designated stations, not staying at stations for more than one minute, treating passengers kindly, and collecting tickets from the conductor after passengers board the buses.
They discussed the issue and agreed to implement the decisions in the meeting before Independence Day.
Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha spoke about some important rules for city buses operating in the city and said that from now on, city buses must be parked in designated places. They warned that if they violated these rules and regulations of the administration, they would face severe punishment.
The meeting was attended by District Transport Officer (Initiator) Himanshu Kumar Das, who highlighted the responsibilities and duties of bus owners, drivers and operators as well as the responsibilities and duties of passengers to improve the quality of city bus services.
