After much anticipation, the Assamese film ‘Sri Raghupati,’ directed by Ravi Sarma, is slated to hit theaters today. This follows a decision by the Gauhati High Court to dismiss the case brought by the movie’s former producer, allowing for the film’s release.
The Gauhati High Court issued a definitive order that allowed the release of ‘Sri Raghupati’ today, overruling a previous stay order by a lower court.
The stay order had been issued following a breach of contract allegation by the film’s former producer, Suruj Sarma. The Kamrup (M) District and Sessions Judge Court originally postponed the film’s release, which had been scheduled for June 2nd, following the lodged complaint by Sarma.
Current producer Salen Kumar Sharma of ‘Maniratna Entertainment,’ undeterred by the lower court’s ruling, took the matter to the Gauhati High Court. Sharma sought to overturn the ruling that had delayed the film’s release until June 15.
