Assamese feature film ‘Jiya,’ directed by Kenny Basumatary and produced by Sarmistha Chakravorty, is set for release across theaters in Assam on May 17th.
The film, which recently bagged the Best Film award at the Prag Cine Awards, promises a heartwarming and relatable experience.
‘Jiya’ tells the story of a young woman named Jiya (played by Sarmistha Chakravorty) who escapes an abusive marriage and embarks on the challenging journey of single motherhood with her daughter Nupur (Aradhya Mahanta). As she battles societal judgment, Jiya finds solace and unwavering support in her friend Pallavi (Eepsita Hazarika).
The intriguing trailer offers a glimpse into Jiya’s daily struggles and the unwavering support she receives from Pallavi. Director Kenny Basumatary’s signature blend of humor and emotional depth is evident, promising a film that is both thought-provoking and engaging.

Songs like ‘Xopun Xopun Loga’ featuring Papon and Sarmistha, and ‘Ei Xadhu’ sung by Shankuraj Konwar and Sarmistha, are already chart-topping hits.
