With massive Bihu celebration, including 11,000 performers, Assam hopes to set a Guinness World Record

Bohag Bihu

Assam hopes to break a world record this Thursday when 11,000 performers perform traditional Bihu dance at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.

The major occasion occurs when Assamese New Year celebrations known as Rongali or Bohag Bihu are underway in the state.

The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, told reporters on Wednesday night that all of the preparations were finished.

The 11,000 artists originated in various regions of the state.

The event will start on Thursday at 5.30 p.m.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state on Friday to dedicate a number of construction initiatives.

It was previously arranged that the performers would take the stage on Friday in Modi’s presence for the Guinness Book of World Records submission.

The schedule did undergo a last-minute change, though.

“On Thursday, the performers would give a performance for the Guinness Book of World Records. The timetable has changed because we anticipated receiving the certificate on Friday following our registration in the Guinness Book of World Records, which Sarma revealed to the media on Wednesday.

He also mentioned that the artists will perform one more on Friday in front of the Prime Minister.

The Chief Minister said that there would be two records—one for the Bihu dance and the other for drumming (dhuliya).
