Witch Hunting: 10 people in Bijni of Assam sentenced to life imprisonment

Additional District and Session Judge court of Bijni has issued a historic verdict. 10 accused in witchcraft case sentenced to life imprisonment The Additional District and Session Judge Court of Bijni, Chirang, handed down the historic verdict against the accused of killing an innocent person on suspicion of witchcraft.

The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment in a witch-hunting case No. 120/2001 filed by the Bijni police station. The court sentenced Keteng Boro, Gena Basumatary, Gogo Basumatary, Gangar Basumatary, Akhu Basumatary, Thiren Basumatary, Sombaru Basumatary, Jaboti Basumatary, Hebro Gayari and Samar Musahari to life imprisonment.

In 2001, 3 people were killed in Banduguri village in Bijni in the name of witch. The victims were identified as Ganguli Basumatary, Malaram Basumatary and Paniram Basumatary. Two of the offenders have already died.
