WAMUL Honored for Outstanding Contribution to Dairy Cooperative Eco-system

WAMUL, known for its brand Purabi Dairy, has been acknowledged by the Centre for its superlative performance and active engagement in fostering the development of the dairy cooperative eco-system in Assam. The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI) presented WAMUL with the esteemed e-market Award 2022-23. The award ceremony took place during the foundation stone laying event for NCDFI Limited’s headquarters in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, S.B. Bose, the Managing Director of WAMUL, stated that the award is an honor for the dairy farmers of Assam. He highlighted the collective efforts of the Purabi Dairy family and emphasized the commitment to providing a robust market for dairy farmers while delivering quality products to consumers. Bose also outlined WAMUL’s mission to empower the farming community through innovative initiatives, contributing to the sustainable growth of the cooperative sector.

Purabi Dairy, under WAMUL, has played a pivotal role in providing livelihood opportunities to around 30,000 dairy farmers across 700 dairy cooperatives in nine districts of Assam. The dairy cooperative, recognized as the largest in the region, ensures a year-round remunerative market for dairy farmers and offers quality-based value-added products to consumers. Purabi Dairy has been proactive in conducting workshops to train farmers in allied activities like bee-keeping and honey harvesting, thereby augmenting their income.

The award ceremony, held in conjunction with the foundation stone laying event for NCDFI Limited’s headquarters, saw Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah as the chief guest. Shah used the occasion to encourage all cooperatives to transition to 100% bank transfers. Notably, WAMUL has already achieved this transition, showcasing its efficiency in financial transactions.

The recognition received by WAMUL reaffirms its commitment to cooperative values and its significant contributions to the dairy sector in Assam. The award serves as a testament to the organization’s dedication to sustainable development and the well-being of dairy farmers.
