Assam Police ASI and veteran athlete Bhupen Kalita passed away yesterday in Dhekiajuli while attending an athletics meet. The decorated sportsman, who had recently participated in the 6th Masters Games and won two medals, tragically breathed his last while having dinner.
Kalita, who was serving with the Nalbari District Executive Force (DEF), had been a respected figure in the athletics community. His dedication to sports was recognized earlier this year when he was felicitated at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Nalbari, for securing third place in High Jump at the National Level Masters Championships 2024 held in Goa.
His unexpected demise has sent shockwaves through the sports and law enforcement communities. The Nalbari Sports Association expressed their grief, stating, “Deepest condolences to his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
