Renowned Assamese actor Arun Nath will be conferred with the Bhaben Baruah Award 2025, in recognition of his lifetime contribution to performing arts, the AJYCP Nalbari District Committee announced on Thursday. The award will be presented at an official ceremony on September 3 at the Nalbari Natya Mandir.
Established in 2009 by the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Nalbari unit, the Bhaben Baruah Award honors individuals for outstanding achievements in Assamese theatre, mobile theatre, and cinema, commemorating the legacy of celebrated writer and dramatist Bhaben Baruah.
Born on May 28, 1952, in Tezpur, Arun Nath is a veteran of the Assamese performing arts scene, with a career spanning over five decades across stage, television, and cinema. He made his film debut with Sonetara (1973) and went on to appear in more than 50 Assamese films, including critically acclaimed titles such as Agnisnaan, Kolahal, Sarbajan, Sarothi, Othello, Calendar, and Sri Raghupati.
In addition to his film career, Nath has been a major presence in mobile theatre and Assamese television serials, earning a reputation as a versatile actor and cultural icon. His contributions have been widely celebrated, previously earning him the Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Award among other accolades.
The ceremony at Nalbari Natya Mandir is expected to draw prominent figures from Assam’s cultural and artistic fraternity, marking a moment of collective recognition for one of the region’s most respected performing artists.
