SC issued new guidelines to School Busses – violation of rules costs a 10,000 fine in Assam

The state transport department has strictly ensured that school buses comply with the Supreme Court’s guidelines. The Supreme Court on Monday issued the New Rules for School Bus for private and public-school authorities.

Gautam Das, Assistant Commissioner of Transport, Kamrup (Metro) of the transport department, said school authorities who violate the directives of the transport department would have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000

“There are some guidelines set by the Supreme Court for the safety of students while traveling in school buses as well as directives from the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights. School authorities must comply with these.”

What are the guidelines SC issued to School Busses

–CCTV cameras should be installed inside school buses in Guwahati.
–Any other vehicle used as a school van other than a school bus shall come under the direction of the Department of Transportation.
–School buses and vans must be painted yellow and the words “School Bus” written on the front and back of the cars.
–If it is a rental bus, clearly state “On School Duty”.
–School name and telephone number must be written on the bus.
–Bus doors should be fitted with a reliable lock.
–There must be enough space under the seat to accommodate school bags.
