Comedian Samay Raina has donated Rs 10 lakh to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support communities affected by the devastating floods in the state. The contribution comes as Assam continues to grapple with widespread flooding, with thousands of people impacted by the ongoing natural disaster.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly acknowledged the donation and thanked the comedian for extending support during the crisis. The Assam Chief Minister’s Office shared a screenshot of the bank transaction on X, confirming the Rs 10 lakh contribution made by Samay Raina. In its post, the official handle stated that the Chief Minister acknowledged the donation to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Sarma also expressed his appreciation through his personal X account, thanking Samay Raina for contributing to the state's relief efforts during the difficult period.
The donation comes at a time when Assam continues to face a severe flood situation. According to PTI, more than 1.55 lakh people remain affected by the floods, while the death toll from this year’s deluge has reached 98. Official figures indicate that 1,55,849 people have been affected across the state, with Golaghat emerging as the worst-hit district, where 58,750 people have been impacted. Sivasagar and Jorhat are also among the worst-affected districts. Earlier, the number of affected people had crossed 1.68 lakh across 15 districts.
As floodwaters continue to disrupt normal life, several communities remain displaced and are dealing with the loss of homes and livelihoods. Relief funds and public contributions continue to play an important role in supporting rescue, rehabilitation and recovery efforts in the affected areas.
Samay Raina's association with Assam had previously drawn attention during the controversy surrounding his YouTube comedy show India's Got Latent in 2025. The show came under scrutiny after an episode featuring YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia sparked widespread criticism over alleged obscene and vulgar remarks. Following the controversy, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced that the Assam Police registered an FIR against Raina, Allahbadia and others. The controversy eventually led to the removal of the show from YouTube.
Following the Chief Minister's acknowledgement of Samay Raina's donation, several social media users revisited the earlier legal case. Some users urged the Chief Minister to withdraw the FIR against the comedian, posting comments requesting that the case be withdrawn. Others, however, focused on appreciating Raina's contribution towards Assam's flood relief efforts and praised him for supporting those affected by the disaster.
The donation has brought Samay Raina and the Assam Chief Minister into focus once again, this time in the context of relief efforts for flood-hit Assam, where thousands of people continue to require assistance.
