The Rising Sun Water Fest, a recurring event with the theme “Revisiting Saraighat 2023,” culminated on Monday at Deepor Beel in Guwahati, showcasing the fruitful partnership between the Assamese government and the Eastern Command of the Indian Army. The festival brought together teams from all around the nation, including service teams, to compete in a variety of water sports disciplines.
The Rising Sun Water Fest 2023 showcased sailing and rowing sports, showcasing the talent and strength of teams from various backgrounds to captivate the audience. Held at the scenic Deepor Beel, the occasion developed into a lively celebration of water sports that drew both competitors and onlookers.
An impressive gathering of dignitaries attended the Closing Ceremony, including B. Kalyan Chakravarty, Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Forest & Environment, MP Kamakhya Prashad Tasa, Lt. General Rana Pratap Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Indian Army, and Nandita Gorlosa, Assam Minister of Sports & Youth Welfare, Power, etc. The event was graced by senior representatives of the Indian Army and the State Government.
During the ceremony, the winning teams were congratulated. The winners received trophies from guests, who recognised their hard work and talent in the competitions.
In the midst of the celebration, Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary announced that the government intended to suggest loosening of environmental regulations in order to facilitate more environmentally friendly tourism activities in the future. Power Minister Nandita Gorlosa thanked the Indian Army for their cooperation and voiced hope that these kinds of events will be crucial in supporting water sports in the state.
Stage performances, a water play on Bir Lachit Barphukan, a soul-stirring violin recital by Sunita Bhuyan, a mesmerising drone show, and spectacular fireworks that lit up the night sky added a spectacular touch to the festivities. These cultural events further embellished the grand finale.
