Padmashree Birubala Rabha, the esteemed social activist known for her relentless crusade against witch-hunting, breathed her last today at approximately 9:23 AM while undergoing treatment at the State Cancer Institute in Guwahati. Her demise has left a deep void in the realm of social activism, where her unwavering dedication and fervent advocacy have made significant strides in addressing societal injustices.

Born and raised in Assam, Birubala Rabha’s life was deeply influenced by her personal encounter with the pernicious practice of witch-hunting. Determined to prevent others from enduring similar atrocities, she dedicated her life to eradicating this deeply entrenched social evil. Her efforts extended beyond mere awareness campaigns, as she actively engaged with communities, provided support to victims, and advocated for legal reforms to combat the root causes of witch-hunting.

Her tireless endeavors garnered widespread acclaim and recognition, culminating in the prestigious Padma Shri award conferred upon her in 2016. However, for Rabha, the true measure of success lay not in accolades but in the tangible impact on the lives of those affected by witch-hunting.

The news of her passing has elicited an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the nation. Political leaders, fellow activists, and ordinary citizens alike have expressed their condolences, acknowledging Rabha’s indelible imprint on society and her unwavering commitment to justice.
