Renowned Musician Ustad Rashid Khan Passes Away At 55

Legendary Hindustani classical vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan breathed his last following a month-long battle with prostate cancer. He was 55.

Khan, who was admitted at a private hospital since last month, was put on ventilator support on Monday after his condition worsened post a cerebral attack.

The Padma Bhushan awardee continued his riyaaz despite the ailment and never missed his daily practice sessions at the hospital.

Rashid Khan enthralled audiences for over four decades with his powerful renditions of khayal gayaki. He rose to fame at age 11 and also delivered hit Bollywood numbers like “Poore Se Zara Sa” (Mausam) and “Aaoge Jab Tum” (Jab We Met).

The musician had received the Padma Shri in 2006, along with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. His fusion compositions and film songs also won widespread acclaim.

Khan’s demise at 55 has left the music fraternity shocked. He is survived by his wife and other family members.
