Today is the 31st death anniversary of Kamala Saikia, the first martyred journalist of Assam. Thirty-one years after the murder, the killers have not been punished. The family waited for a long time, trusting the Indian legal system. Martyr journalist Kamala Saikia was not only an invaluable asset to his native Dikhoumukh in Shibsagar district, he was the creator of modern Dikhoumukh. There are many places in Dikhoumukh where the memory of Kamala Saikia is associated. He was a correspondent for the Assamese daily newspaper 'Ajir Assam' published by The Sentinel newspaper group in Guwahati. He was a fearless, impartial and honest journalist. Therefore, the news he presented deprived many of their sleep. He was shot dead by an unknown assassin on this day.
