Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, announced on Tuesday that by 2026, all of Guwahati’s public transportation will be powered by electricity or non-fossil fuels in an effort to reduce carbon emissions.
According to the Assam Chief Minister, the state government is introducing electric vehicles in Guwahati, and by 2026, all forms of public transportation would be powered by electricity and non-fossil fuels.
Sarma added that his government is also making some environmentally friendly moves, like as switching to earthenware from plastic cups, etc.

He claimed that the initiative will play a significant role in restoring the pottery market.
According to Chief Minister Sarma, global warming poses a grave threat to human life on the earth. Unprecedented floods and droughts, a shortage of drinking water, and other issues are becoming increasingly apparent as a result of global warming and may have an effect on the economy. In these conditions, he said, there is an increasing need for the general public to be made aware of the negative impacts of global warming on nature, as well as on flora and wildlife.
The Assam Chief Minister continued by saying that Guwahati’s wetlands and greenery had significantly decreased over the past few years.
“As a result, the city’s residents and its neighbours are dealing with serious issues related to their health and environment. Although people are aware of the theory behind climate change and its negative repercussions, he continued, “everyone needs to adjust their lifestyle and take concrete efforts to stop the trends of environmental degradation.
