Prominent Assamese writer Atulananda Goswami passes away on Wednesday at Gauhati Medical College Hospital. Goswami was 89 years old at the time of his death.
As per the reports, Goswami has been undergoing treatment at GMCH for the past 10 days. Unfortunately, Goswami passed away at 4.40 AM today.
Goswami was born in 1935 and is a short story writer, translator, and novelist. In 2013, he was awarded the Assam Valley Literature Award. In addition, he won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2006 for ‘Cheneh Jarir Ganthi’ (চেনেহ জৰীৰ গাঁথি) ‘Namgharia’ (নামঘৰীয়া) is another timeless novel by Goswami.

The popular serial ‘Namgharia’, once broadcast on Guwahati Doordarshan, was a play on many of his popular novels. The popular book was published in 1989.
He was known throughout the state as an Assamese short story writer, a litterateur, and a novelist. His works have been met with great acclaim over his lengthy literary career.
Atulananda Goswami was awarded Kumar Kishore Memorial Award. In 1992 he won the Katha award for creative writing for his work Boliya Hathi’ .
